Felisberto (Phil) Silva
Professional Sport Horse Handler/Equine Transport Specialist/Horse Sales
Phil Silva was advised by Hilda Gurney to become a professional sport horse handler, after she watched
him handling at a clinic over ten years ago. Since then, Phil has handled the 2007 Horse of the Year;
his own Demimora MG to USDF National Reserve Champion in 2009 and 2010; and many champions at the
prestigious Dressage at Devon, NEDA, and other breed shows throughout the U.S.
In 2014, Dressage at Devon awarded Phil the John "JP" Perry Memorial Perpetual Trophy, as the person
who exhibits true sportsmanship and is an ambassador for equestrian sports.
In association with Dressage4Kids, Phil mentors young U.S. equestrians via the Young Breeder's Sport
Horse Educational Program curriculum he helped develop. In August 2015, young Sport Horse handlers
from Canada traveled to Hartpury, UK to compete at the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses
(WBFSH) International Young Breeders World Championships, held bi-annually. After working with Phil
in June 2015, they posted their best results to date.
Equine Valet is Phil's domestic equine transport company, and Silva Jordan is the international equine
transport business he runs with partner Marcel Jordan. Phil and his USDF silver-medalist wife Orintha
operate Ten Broeck Farm Inc., recently relocated from the northeast to Palm City, Florida.
Phil is an in-demand Sport Horse handler and clinician for both the USDF; USEA; and throughout the
U.S. and Canada, where he also participates in keurings and inspections.
